How LanguageCert came about, and where it's from
LanguageCert is the business name of PeopleCert Qualifications Ltd, a UK-registered company with a London address. It belongs to the PeopleCert group, whose portfolio also includes certifications such as ITIL and PRINCE2. According to PeopleCert's site, Byron Nicolaides founded the group in 2000, and it grew from a Greek business into a global one.
| Year | What happened |
|---|---|
| 2000 | PeopleCert founded |
| 2015 | LanguageCert's start according to unofficial company profiles; we didn't find this date on official pages |
| 2023 | LanguageCert Academic and General officially launched |
In the UK, LanguageCert is an awarding organisation recognised by Ofqual. It says the UK Home Office and Australia's Department of Home Affairs accept its tests. Even so, ask each university or visa authority for its own requirements.
What the test costs in dollars

Which option do you need?
- Online: from home, with live proctoring; a valid passport is required. It isn't accepted for Australian visas.
- Test centre: for all uses, and the only option accepted for Australian visas.
- UKVI approved centre: only for UK student visas that require a SELT.
Where the test is held
LanguageCert says Academic is held at more than 150 centres worldwide and online. The Listening, Reading and Writing part and the Speaking part can be taken on the same day, subject to availability, or within 14 days of each other. Official results usually come within 3 working days of your last exam.

No city was shown for Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan wasn't in the finder's list of countries. A city on this list doesn't mean a test date is free: check the dates for that city.
If you're in Iran, know this before you pay
Iran wasn't in the Academic finder's list of countries, and choosing Iran on the site showed no price for any option. We saw nothing about Iranian candidates in the LanguageCert terms and policies we read, so we can't say it's possible, or that it's forbidden. Some other tests have reportedly become restricted for candidates in Iran.
Before you buy a ticket or a test, ask LanguageCert's support and the test centre these in writing, and give your country of residence truthfully:
- Can I sit the test at this centre with an Iranian passport?
- Can someone living in Iran register, or take the test online?
- How can I pay? The methods the site names for online exams are Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal.
What a trip to Turkey for the test costs
An estimate for sitting the test in Istanbul, at about 271,000 toman to the dollar (30 October 2026):
| Item | Rough cost |
|---|---|
| The test at a centre ($180) | 49 million toman |
| Return flight, Tehran–Istanbul | 40 million toman |
| Hotel, four nights | 30 million toman |
| Total | About 119 million toman |
Food, getting around the city and insurance aren't in this total, and flight and hotel prices change with your dates. According to unofficial sources, Iranian passport holders need no visa for a short trip to Turkey; check this, and your passport's validity, with an official source before you travel. Confirm your test date first, then buy your ticket.
Before you spend this, see how ready you are
With a cost like this, it's worth knowing where you stand before you register. Read the format and scoring guide, take a full mock and work out an overall score with the score calculator. Certyar's scores are estimates.
Certyar is an independent preparation site, not affiliated with LanguageCert; it doesn't run the test or take registrations. For the official details, see LanguageCert Academic's page.
